This delightful picture book, not only introduces children to wondrous sea life with its liquidlike illustrations, but also paints beautiful images with its poetic language. The descriptive imagery of “an eel whose tail was almost too far away to remember” is enchanting and leaves any age reader wanting more. The idea, of small red fish banding together to scare off the big bully tuna fish is very empowering to small children and endearing to anyone else loving the underdog, whom, through the power of teamwork, triumphs in this Caldecott Honor’s winner.
